Prof. Rokuya Tanikawa is Professor and Chairman of the Stroke Center at Sapporo Teishinkai Hospital and Vice Executive President of the Far East Neurosurgical Institute. He trained in vascular neurosurgery under Prof. Hiroyasu Kamiyama and spent more than two decades studying skull base surgery under Prof. Fukushima. During sixteen years at Abashiri Neurosurgical Hospital he operated on 500 ruptured and 500 unruptured aneurysms. He was an invited faculty at the Helsinki Microsurgery Live Course from 2010 to 2019 and has mentored more than 300 international fellows. In 2014 he founded what is today the FEN Sapporo Live Microneurosurgery Course in Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery, held every July in Sapporo and running in 2026 for the tenth time. He is also a trailblazer of the newest Mitaka MM77 Supermicroscope, which will be used during the workshop.

The Mitaka Sewing with the Masters follows a proven format, well established at leading international and European conferences. Participants perform microvascular anastomoses under the magnification of Mitaka surgical microscopes. Each participant carries out the procedure under the close guidance of an experienced instructor, replicating the natural "face-to-face" setup of real microvascular operations.
